The BH Blazers hockey team believes that continuous improvement on skills and conditioning are very important to the development of hockey players at every level.

During the off-season the Balmoral Hall coaching staff offers training and development camps to players in Winnipeg and the surrounding area to prepare for the upcoming season. These camps include specific skill development and small group work. We invite players of all skills to participate in our development camps!

  • Blazers Hockey Academy (BHA)

    Balmoral Hall School has endeavoured on a new athletic program for the 2018/19 school year and beyond. The Blazers Hockey Academy (BHA) had their first on-ice session on October 1, 2018 which will run 4-5 days a week until March 15, 2019. 

    The BHA is a skills academy for BH girls looking to improve on and off the ice. 


  • Blazers Spring Development Camp

    Our spring development camp runs every year from April until June and is coached by Blazers Prep Coaches, Sarah Zacharias and Regan Boulton. Additional guest coaches include Blazers Alumae and BHA lead skills instructor, Jenelle Kohanchuk '08 and 3x Olympian Venla Hovi.

Blazers Hockey Academy

Lead Skills Instructor (BHA)

Jenelle Kohanchuk '08 joins the Blazers Hockey Academy as the Lead Skills Instructor. Jenelle is an alumnae of Balmoral Hall School and the Blazers Prep Hockey Program who is excited to be giving back to the next generation of hockey players, especially at her alma mater. 

Kohanchuk is a professional women’s hockey player who recently played in the Swedish Women’s Hockey League with the MODO Hockey Club for the 2017/2018 hockey season. Previous to this, she played in the Canadian Women’s Hockey League where she was a member of the Toronto Furies from 2014-2017, with a highlight of winning the Clarkson Cup that same year. Throughout her playing career, she was a member of the Canadian National Women’s Hockey Program from 2008-2017. At the National team level, she represented Canada by winning Gold at the Four Nations Cup in 2013 and 2014, and a silver medal in 2016. She was a member of the Under-22/Development team capturing an exhibition series win vs. USA in 2010, as well as receiving Gold at the MLP/MECO Cup in Germany in 2010, 2011, and 2012. Her NCAA hockey career was attended at Boston University from 2008-2013, where she helped lead the Boston University Terries to Four Hockey East Championship titles and two Frozen Four appearances. She was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie team her freshman year, was part of the Hockey East All-star team in 2009, and was named to the Hockey East Second Team All-Star team her senior year, among winning the Hockey East player of the week award 12 times throughout her career.
 
Jenelle has been passionate in teaching hockey and coaching the next generation since 2014. While she was playing in Toronto during her CWHL career, she worked alongside a few of Canada’s top skills coaches for three years helping develop male and female hockey players of all ages and skills. She was the lead skills instructor for the North York Storm Female Organization from 2015-2017, running team, group, and individual skill sessions. She has been an assistant coach for Atom AA, Peewee AA, and Bantam AA female hockey teams in Toronto, helping lead the teams to numerous titles in the league as well as tournament championships. She is the head female skills coach at NRG, running private and group on-ice skills sessions. She recently opened up her own hockey business: JK Hockey Skills and Development – providing on ice and off ice sessions for both male and female hockey players of all ages and all skill levels in Winnipeg, MB. . In August 2018, she will be an assistant coach for the U22 Canadian National Development team camp, which will be a deciding factor for a chosen team to participate at the MECO Cup in Germany in December. She is taking her HP1(High Performance) Hockey Canada Coaching Certification.
